I love books.
I don't mean to brag, but I'm a good reader. Reading and comprehending are easy for me, and I'm a really fast reader. I say this because I feel like that is directly related to my Mom and Dad reading to me, and putting the love of reading into my life.
I want that for my girls. I want them to read well, I want them to love reading. I want them to understand the power of a good book and what it means to have a book challenge your way of thinking.
So we read to our girls. All the time. They love it and even have some books memorized and pretend to 'read' the books to each other. I think I'm going to start sharing some of our favorite books on the blog....maybe you'll find a new book to read to your kid!
My favorite author right now is Audrey Wood. My sister bought the twins the book The Napping House for Christmas. It immediately became a favorite. Some of her books are illustrated by her husband, Don Wood. He's an amazing illustrator. Here are my favorite Wood books, so far. Click on the title to see the book on Amazon.com.
The Napping House
Beautifully illustrated, great for bedtime reading
King Bidgood's in the Bathtub
Amazing illustration--seriously, you'll just sit and look at the pictures. My girls think the very last page is hilarious.
Piggies
Once again, illustrated by Don Wood.
Silly Sally
Toddlers will love this book because it's silly and repetitive. There's a character named Neddy Buttercup. Need I say more?
The Deep Blue Sea
Audrey Wood's son illustrated this book. It's beautiful and my girls have it memorized.
The one book I would NOT recommend for toddlers would be Heggety Peg. The illustrations are beautiful, but it's a little scary. She's a witch who turns little kids into food. She tells their mom to cut off her own feet before she can save her kids!

I love kids' book recommendations! I feel like we read the same ones over and over, and we read a LOT. I am going to check out Audrey Wood's books.
My girls are hooked on the Minerva Louise books and we love Llama Llama Mad at Mama too. I like books with a good, flowing rhythm, and Llama Llama books are great for that.
deanna, you will love silly sally if you like the rhythm! :)
i'm going to have to check out the minerva louise books at the library...
my girls love the llama llama books, too
