Mommy Monster

I have a new 'mommy trick'.

I know that certain things work for certain kids, but I thought I would share it. Maybe someone else can use this trick to make their life slightly easier. My twin girls have a room upstairs. It seemed like I was fighting to get them up the stairs for every single nap and bed time. It was so annoying--they would start crying because they don't want to nap. I would be trying to get one girl to start going up the stairs, the other girl starts crying and just sits down, the other twin comes back down the stairs....you get the picture. I would yell, they would cry, and no one would get upstairs. It was a very frustrating process to go through twice a day.

The solution I found is a game called "Mommy Monster".
Here's how it works:

I tell them it's time for bed, and they start whining. So I tell them to watch out, because Mommy Monster is coming to get them! I start growling at them and immediately they run upstairs, laughing.
They run upstairs and hide from Mommy Monster. I growl all the way up the stairs and tell them I'm going to eat their fingers (maybe this is gruesome, but my toddlers think it's hilarious).

When I get upstairs, I pretend like I can't find them. "Where's that little girl with the yummy fingers? Under this pillow? Maybe those girls are hiding in the drawer!" (you get the idea).

Eventually, Mommy Monster finds both girls and nibbles on some yummy fingers. We read a few books, sing a song or two, and get tucked into bed for nap time.

Maybe you only have one child to corral to bed and it isn't a problem. But just maybe, you're like me and are outnumbered by your children. Try the Mommy Monster routine to get them into their room.

It's like magic. Monster magic.

Great idea.

We had a bedtime ritual that involved putting a penny under a glass of milk and then drinking it. They were convinced this would knock them out.

They thought that because that is what I told them, but we did it every night for years and never had any issues.
